Транскрипции окончание — остановка транскрипции гена в соответствующую иРНК (см. РНК информационная). У прокариот встречается rho-фактор-независимая остановка транскрипции. Процесс прекращения (остановки) транскрипции у эукариот пока мало известен, но, по-видимому, включает различные сигналы для разных ДНК-зависимых РНК-полимераз. РНК-полимераза I узнает терминирующую последовательность из 18 п.о., с которой связывается вспомогательный белок, РНК-полимераза II, возможно, покидает матрицу после контакта со специфической вторичной структурой ДНК в сайте транскрипции и РНК-полимераза III прекращает транскрипцию при встрече с U4-последовательностью внутри области, богатой GC.
